Directed by young David Doiashvili, Macbeth from Georgia continues the tradition of the International Small Scene Festival to reveal young directors still unknown to larger European audience, but soon to become renowned names on world stages. The spectacular staging of Shakespeare’s tragedy with modern means and dynamic directing imposes itself as a new reading of the well-known classic. The witches' wheel dancing is here a macabre, as well as a cabaret-like frame to the familiar tragedy. Or so we thought until this production.

It is not only a story of murder, madness and death or violence and supernatural phenomenon that fascinated, surprised and moved me, but the meta-text, twin realm: comedy and tragedy, joined by restless experimenter with wit and humor, lyricism and mastery of language –the greatest of poets. ‘Fair is foul and foul is fair’ a mysterious explanation, given to us by trio of witches leads us through the whole story, told in words and action by my young actors, with sound an fury, signifying . .
